Amos 6.1-3

Woe to those who are at ease in Zion
and to those who feel secure in the mountain of Samaria,

the notable men of the first of the nations
to whom the descendants of Israel come–

Pass over to Calneh, and see;
and thence go to Hamath the Great;
then go down to Gath of the Philistines.

Are they better than these kingdoms?
Or is your territory greater than their territory?

Oh you, who put far away the evil day,
and bring near the seat of violence!

  1. Isn't this The American Way?– possibly "the human way"?We of course want to "put far away the evil day." It's "depressing".And of course, "Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof…"Or as my computer tells me: "Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday." And we're doing okay, haven't hit the concrete yet.And we are in good Hands. Just need to pay attention & do what we're given to stay in those Hands.But when that attention lapses, we've got to bring it back. Or tomorrow will be "the tomorrow we're (justly) worrying about today."Denial… which looks like what I'm talking about, but isn't: That is what continues to "bring near the seat of violence."
